Directed by Mike Nichols, Tess McGill (Melanie Griffith) is a smart but beleaguered young assistant who works for an ambitious female boss, Katharine Parker (Sigourney Weaver), in a dead-end job on Wall St. But when Katharine blatantly steals Tess’s business tip (without giving Tess any credit), and soon afterward winds up stuck in the hospital with a broken leg, Tess decides to pretend to be her boss. Presenting herself as Katherine, she initiates a major deal with a top investment broker (Harrison Ford) who soon becomes her love interest, but things turn ugly after Katharine finds out what Tess has been up to.
